Bridekirk - Governance

Governance

Bridekirk is part of the Workington constituency for UK parliament. The current Member of Parliament for the Workington constituency is Tony Cunningham, who is a member of the Labour party. The Labour party has won the seat in the constituency in every general election since 1979. The Conservative party has only been elected once in Workington since World War 2, which was in the 1976 election.

A Bridekirk parish council also exists which meets once a month in Bridekirk Dovenby School with the MP for Workington, Tony Cunningham, the Cumbria county Councillor and the Allerdale Borough Councillors all being elected representatives. However, the parish council has its own Councillors which usually attend the meetings.
