Brian Field

Brian Field (born 15 December 1934 – May 1979) was a crooked solicitor's clerk who was one of the masterminds of the Great Train Robbery. He was the crucial link between the key informant known only as "Ulsterman" (who came up with the idea of robbing the money laden night mail train and also provided the details of the schedule and contents of the trains) with the actual gang capable of planning and carrying out such a complex and large scale robbery. He was found guilty of Conspiracy to Rob but this was later overturned on appeal and he only served jail time for Obstruction of Justice, basically in relation to arranging the purchase of Leatherslade Farm, which was used as the gang's hideout.

Famous quotes containing the words brian and/or field:

The surprise is half the battle. Many things are half the battle, losing is half the battle. Let’s think about what’s the whole battle.
David Mamet, U.S. screenwriter, and Brian DePalma. Elliot Ness (Kevin Costner)

Mine was, as it were, the connecting link between wild and cultivated fields; as some states are civilized, and others half-civilized, and others savage or barbarous, so my field was, though not in a bad sense, a half-cultivated field. They were beans cheerfully returning to their wild and primitive state that I cultivated, and my hoe played the Ranz des Vaches for them.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
