Culp began his IT career at IBM in Seattle, Washington. After leaving IBM, he became president and CEO of LANscape, Inc., a training and networking services firm in his hometown of Overland Park, Kansas.

Inevitably, Culp began working for Microsoft. As a member of the Microsoft Across America team, Culp toured the U.S. giving presentations for Microsoft on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Small Business Server, and Office 2007.

Culp is author or coauthor of numerous books, including: Windows Vista Administration: The Definitive Guide (O'Reilly, 2007), MCTS Windows Vista Client Configuration Passport (McGraw Hill, 2007), Windows XP Power Tools (Sybex, 2002), Outlook 2003 Bible (Wiley, 2004), Spring Into Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (Prentice Hall, 2005), and multiple MCSE study guides (McGraw Hill). He has also authored several tutorials for the Virtual Training Company (VTC).
