The Seattle Times Years
After university, he landed a 16-year stint at the Seattle Times, where he drew editorial cartoons for the newspaper. It was during this career when he developed the comic strip "Adam" (later known as Adam@Home or Adam at Home). It was first syndicated in 1984 and focused on the life of Adam Newman, who Basset has admitted has eerie resemblances to his real-life self.
In 1994, Basset was laid off by the Seattle Times during a period of downsizing.

Famous quotes containing the words seattle, times and/or years:
“If Id written all the truth I knew for the past ten years, about 600 peopleincluding mewould be rotting in prison cells from Rio to Seattle today. Absolute truth is a very rare and dangerous commodity in the context of professional journalism.”
—Hunter S. Thompson (b. 1939)
“For the world hath lost his youth, and the times begin to wax old.”
—Apocrypha. 2 Esdras, 14:10.
“Under bare Ben Bulbens head
In Drumcliff churchyard Yeats is laid.
An ancestor was rector there
Long years ago, a church stands near,
By the road an ancient cross.
No marble, no conventional phrase;
On limestone quarried near the spot
By his command these words are cut:
Cast a cold eye
On life, on death.
Horseman pass by!”
—William Butler Yeats (18651939)
