Bremerhaven - Twin Cities

Twin Cities

Bremerhaven's twin cities include:

  • Adana, Turkey, since May 1959
  • Cherbourg-Octeville, France, since June 1960
  • Grimsby, United Kingdom, since February 1963
  • Pori, Finland, since May 1969
  • Frederikshavn, Denmark, since June 1979
  • Szczecin, Poland, since October 1990
  • Kaliningrad, Russia, since April 1992
  • Baltimore, United States, since 2007

The three roads connecting the city of Bremerhaven to the Autobahn 27 consequently are named after the original three twin cities:

  • Cherbourger Straße (AS Bremerhaven-Überseehafen)
  • Grimsbystraße (AS Bremerhaven-Mitte)
  • Poristraße (AS Bremerhaven-Geestemünde)

In addition to that there are also streets which earlier had been named after Szczecin (Stettiner Straße) and Kaliningrad (Königsberger Straße).

Famous quotes containing the words twin and/or cities:

We live under continual threat of two equally fearful, but seemingly opposed, destinies: unremitting banality and inconceivable terror. It is fantasy, served out in large rations by the popular arts, which allows most people to cope with these twin specters.
    Susan Sontag (b. 1933)

Do you know what Agelisas said, when he was asked why the great city of Lacedomonie was not girded with walls? Because, pointing out the inhabitants and citizens of the city, so expert in military discipline and so strong and well armed: “Here,” he said, “are the walls of the city,” meaning that there is no wall but of bones, and that towns and cities can have no more secure nor stronger wall than the virtue of their citizens and inhabitants.
    François Rabelais (1494–1553)
