Breeders' Cup Mile - Automatic Berths

Automatic Berths

Beginning in 2007, the Breeders' Cup developed "The Breeders' Cup Challenge," a series of races in each division that alloted automatic qualifying bids to winners of defined races. Each of the fourteen divisions has between three and six of these, "Win and You're In," qualifiers. In the Breeders' Cup Mile Division there are six automatic berths. In 2009, the Win and You're In races are: the Champions Mile, a group one race at Sha Tin Racecourse, the Woodbine Mile, a grade one race at Woodbine Racetrack, the Del Mar Breeders' Cup Mile, a grade one race at Del Mar, the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes a group one race at Ascot Racecourse, the Shadwell Turf Mile Stakes a grade one race at Keeneland and the Oak Tree Mile Stakes a grade two race at Santa Anita Park.

Famous quotes containing the word automatic:

The ruin of the human heart is self-interest, which the American merchant calls self-service. We have become a self- service populace, and all our specious comforts—the automatic elevator, the escalator, the cafeteria—are depriving us of volition and moral and physical energy.
    Edward Dahlberg (1900–1977)
