Social Issues and Trends

In 2006, the average American woman owned six bras, one of which was a strapless bra, and one in a color other than white. In 2012, women owned an average of 9 bras and wore six of them on a regular basis. Consumers spend around $16 billion a year on bras. Famous quotes containing the words social, issues and/or trends:

Becoming more flexible, open-minded, having a capacity to deal with change is a good thing. But it is far from the whole story. Grandparents, in the absence of the social institutions that once demanded civilized behavior, have their work cut out for them. Our grandchildren are hungry for our love and approval, but also for standards being set.
    Eda Le Shan (20th century)

Your toddler will be “good” if he feels like doing what you happen to want him to do and does not happen to feel like doing anything you would dislike. With a little cleverness you can organize life as a whole, and issues in particular, so that you both want the same thing most of the time.
    Penelope Leach (20th century)

Thanks to recent trends in the theory of knowledge, history is now better aware of its own worth and unassailability than it formerly was. It is precisely in its inexact character, in the fact that it can never be normative and does not have to be, that its security lies.
    Johan Huizinga (1872–1945)
