Brad Green (footballer) - Early Life

Early Life

A natural sportsman, Green played representative cricket and soccer as a teenager. He captained the Australian under-15 cricket team. During his early soccer-playing days as a teenager he was scouted by Manchester United. After spending a month at Old Trafford, the 15-year-old Green trained with Walsall, a lower division English club, and was offered a contract but turned it down, choosing to finish his schooling in Tasmania. Green remains a soccer fan and supporter of Melbourne Victory. Surprisingly Green only began playing Australian rules seriously in his mid teens – after returning from England – but his talent was obvious. Green decided to focus his sporting attention on the local game and was subsequently drafted to Melbourne in the 1999 AFL Draft.

Famous quotes containing the words early life, early and/or life:

Many a woman shudders ... at the terrible eclipse of those intellectual powers which in early life seemed prophetic of usefulness and happiness, hence the army of martyrs among our married and unmarried women who, not having cultivated a taste for science, art or literature, form a corps of nervous patients who make fortunes for agreeable physicians ...
    Sarah M. Grimke (1792–1873)

The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the alms-house as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its door as early in the spring. I do not see but a quiet mind may live as contentedly there, and have as cheering thoughts, as in a palace.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

[The sceptic] must acknowledge, if he will acknowledge any thing, that all human life must perish, were his principles to prevail. All discourse, all action would immediately cease, and men remain in a total lethargy, till the necessities of nature, unsatisfied, put an end to their miserable existence.
    David Hume (1711–1776)
