Sets and Groups
Curly brackets { } are used to identify the elements of a set: {a,b,c} denotes a set of three elements.
Angle brackets are used in group theory to write group presentations, and to denote the subgroup generated by a collection of elements.

Famous quotes containing the words sets and/or groups:
“Nothing sets a person up more than having something turn out just the way its supposed to be, like falling into a Swiss snowdrift and seeing a big dog come up with a little cask of brandy round its neck.”
—Claud Cockburn (19041981)
“Women over fifty already form one of the largest groups in the population structure of the western world. As long as they like themselves, they will not be an oppressed minority. In order to like themselves they must reject trivialization by others of who and what they are. A grown woman should not have to masquerade as a girl in order to remain in the land of the living.”
—Germaine Greer (b. 1939)
