Bosansko Grahovo - History

History

Gavrilo Princip, the main perpetrator of the assassination in Sarajevo of 1914, was born in the village of Obljaj located just east of Bosansko Grahovo.

During the Bosnian War the city was held by Bosnian Serb forces. In autumn 1995 Croatian forces took over the city which led to a mass-evacuation of the Serbs. After the war, the Serb civilians returned, and today, they again form majority of population in the municipality.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

It takes a great deal of history to produce a little literature.
    Henry James (1843–1916)

The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles.
    Karl Marx (1818–1883)

Postmodernism is, almost by definition, a transitional cusp of social, cultural, economic and ideological history when modernism’s high-minded principles and preoccupations have ceased to function, but before they have been replaced with a totally new system of values. It represents a moment of suspension before the batteries are recharged for the new millennium, an acknowledgment that preceding the future is a strange and hybrid interregnum that might be called the last gasp of the past.
Gilbert Adair, British author, critic. Sunday Times: Books (London, April 21, 1991)
