Borough Sports Ground - History

History

The ground was originally used as a racing track. Due to this, the terraces are further away from the pitch than average, making the crowd seem quieter.

Sutton United's first match at the Borough Sports Ground (then known as the Adult School Sports Ground) was in 1912 against Guards Depot F.C. in the FA Cup. The first league match was against Redhill and was won 1–0. Sutton left the ground at the end of the 1912–13 season, but returned after World War I.

The main stand was built in 1951, although it has been altered throughout the years. The stand's blues seats were donated by Chelsea.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

If usually the “present age” is no very long time, still, at our pleasure, or in the service of some such unity of meaning as the history of civilization, or the study of geology, may suggest, we may conceive the present as extending over many centuries, or over a hundred thousand years.
    Josiah Royce (1855–1916)

All things are moral. That soul, which within us is a sentiment, outside of us is a law. We feel its inspiration; out there in history we can see its fatal strength.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

The history of every country begins in the heart of a man or a woman.
    Willa Cather (1876–1947)
