Borough of Queenscliffe - History

History

The Borough of Queenscliffe was established in May 1863.

Queenscliffe is the last borough remaining in both Victoria and all of Australia and was the only LGA to escape change in the mass Victorian municipal restructuring which took place in 1994. Had the same restructuring principles which applied elsewhere in the state also been applied to Queenscliffe, the borough would have been absorbed into the new City of Greater Geelong.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

History, as an entirety, could only exist in the eyes of an observer outside it and outside the world. History only exists, in the final analysis, for God.
    Albert Camus (1913–1960)

At present cats have more purchasing power and influence than the poor of this planet. Accidents of geography and colonial history should no longer determine who gets the fish.
    Derek Wall (b. 1965)

In the history of the United States, there is no continuity at all. You can cut through it anywhere and nothing on this side of the cut has anything to do with anything on the other side.
    Henry Brooks Adams (1838–1918)
