Borough of Queenscliffe - 2008 Council Elections

2008 Council Elections

The 2008 Victorian Council elections, were for the first time in history held on the same day throughout Victoria for all councils; Saturday 29 November 2008. A postal ballot was held for the Queenscliffe Borough, conducted in the week prior to ballots closing at 6.00pm on Friday 28 November 2008.

Nine individuals stood for election to the five vacancies available on council. No sitting councillors were ousted at this election. Of the former seven councillors all but John Burgess retired.

Cr Burgess was re-elected. Joining him on the new (decreased) five seat council, are four fresh faces in Helene Butler, Lloyd Davies, former Cricket Australia chairman Bob Merriman and David Mitchell.

Currently only Cr Burgess has more than four years experience as a councillor at the Borough.

Famous quotes containing the words council and/or elections:

There by some wrinkled stones round a leafless tree
With beards askew, their eyes dull and wild
Twelve ragged men, the council of charity
Wandering the face of the earth a fatherless child....
    Allen Tate (1899–1979)

In my public statements I have earnestly urged that there rested upon government many responsibilities which affect the moral and spiritual welfare of our people. The participation of women in elections has produced a keener realization of the importance of these questions and has contributed to higher national ideals. Moreover, it is through them that our national ideals are ingrained in our children.
    Herbert Hoover (1874–1964)
