Boom Chicago

Boom Chicago is a creative group, based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, that writes and performs sketch and improvisational comedy at the Leidseplein Theater. They were the creative forces behind Comedy Central News (CCN), a news show on the Dutch Comedy Central which was canceled after two seasons, but continued to make videos for mobile devices and their website.

The group was founded in 1993 by Andrew Moskos, Jon Rosenfeld and Ken Schaefle, who named it after their hometown. In the beginning, the show was aimed mostly at tourists, but today the show has become a part of Amsterdam's locals' scene.

Over the years, Boom Chicago has addressed issues like privacy, the role of Europe, the dangers of emerging extreme right, xenophobia, Pim Fortuyn, 9/11 and the role of technology. Mixing political and social issues with traditional cabaret elements has been popular with audiences and critics alike.

The group is currently owned by Moskos, Rosenfeld and Saskia Maas.

Famous quotes containing the words boom and/or chicago:

The cohort that made up the population boom is now grown up; many are in fact middle- aged. They are one reason for the enormous current interest in such topics as child rearing and families. The articulate and highly educated children of the baby boom form a huge, literate market for books on various issues in parenting and child rearing, and, as time goes on, adult development, divorce, midlife crisis, old age, and of course, death.
    Joseph Featherstone (20th century)

Ethnic life in the United States has become a sort of contest like baseball in which the blacks are always the Chicago Cubs.
    Ishmael Reed (b. 1938)
