Bong Load Custom Records is an independent record label based in Los Angeles which was founded by producers Tom Rothrock, Rob Schnapf and partner Bradshaw Lambert. One of their biggest signings was Beck in 1991. Other notable bands from the original Bong Load Custom Records include Fu Manchu, Wool, Kyuss, Dog Society, The Obsessed, Fatso Jetson and Los Angeles Bands Lutefisk and Project K. In 2007, Rothrock relaunched the label with a series of his own solo recordings of instrumental releases.
In 1998, Beck released the album Mutations on the Geffen label, which led to a series of lawsuits between Beck, Bong Load and Geffen which were settled in 1999.
Much of the Bong Load Record catalog was released in small quantities. Several bands have very rare releases that are much sought after and command high prices at auctions.
Famous quotes containing the words load, custom and/or records:
“Tobacco and opium have broad backs, and will cheerfully carry the load of armies, if you choose to make them pay high for such joy as they give and such harm as they do.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“At twenty-two, hed been a cowboy, a rustler, one of the best in the Sprawl.... Hed operated on an almost permanent adrenaline high, a byproduct of youth and proficiency, jacked into a custom cyberspace deck that projected his disembodied consciousness into the consensual hallucination that was the Matrix.”
—William Gibson b. (1948)
“The camera relieves us of the burden of memory. It surveys us like God, and it surveys for us. Yet no other god has been so cynical, for the camera records in order to forget.”
—John Berger (b. 1926)
