Bon-y-maen Communities First Group and Community Archives Wales

The group was established in July 2006 to provide meetings/classes of interest to the members. Simply Us is a group of between fifteen and twenty women between the ages of twenty and forty that regularly meet in Bon-y-maen Communities First Centre. The group was established in July 2006 to provide meetings/classes of interest to the members to help them gain confidence and new skills. In 2007 they joined the Community Archives Wales project. The group are researching the history of the carnival in Bon-y-maen and have already gathered a number of photographs, programmes and costumes to digitise for their community archive. There is a wonderful community spirit in Bon-y-maen and an infectious enthusiasm for the project throughout the wider community involving all age groups.

Famous quotes containing the words communities, group, community and/or wales:

... feminist solidarity rooted in a commitment to progressive politics must include a space for rigorous critique, for dissent, or we are doomed to reproduce in progressive communities the very forms of domination we seek to oppose.
    bell hooks (b. c. 1955)

A little group of wilful men reflecting no opinion but their own have rendered the great Government of the United States helpless and contemptible.
    Woodrow Wilson (1856–1924)

The poorest children in a community now find the beneficent kindergarten open to them from the age of two-and-a-half to six years. Too young heretofore to be eligible to any public school, they have acquired in their babyhood the vicious tendencies of their own depraved neighborhoods; and to their environment at that tender age had been due the loss of decency and self-respect that no after example of education has been able to restore to them.
    Virginia Thrall Smith (1836–1903)

I just come and talk to the plants, really—very important to talk to them, they respond I find.
Charles, Prince Of Wales (b. 1948)
