Guernica (Gernika in Basque, and officially called Gernika-Lumo since 1983) had long been a centre of great significance to the Basque people.

Guernica is 30 kilometers east of Bilbao, estimated to be 30 kilometers from the front of battle, in Basque province of Vizcaya. The population of Guernica had 7,000 people. Not only was Guernica considered the identity of Basque, but it was also considered the spiritual capital of Basque people. Guernica has always been celebrated, as the home of Basque liberties.
