Rivalries
Bolton historically have a rivalry with near neighbours Bury. The club also has a rivalry with Blackburn Rovers, as the two sides are separated by just fifteen miles and are both founder members of the Football League. Some Bolton fans also consider Manchester United to be a major rival. More recently, Bolton have developed a rivalry with Wigan Athletic, whose fans generally regard Bolton as their main rivals. Bolton also share rivalries with Tranmere Rovers, Burnley, Oldham Athletic, Blackpool, Manchester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Preston North End.
