Aside from Murcer's broadcasting, he was active in the media. He had guest appearances on Beat the Clock, Hee Haw, What's My Line? (as a mystery guest), appeared in national television ads in the late 1970s along with Carlton Fisk endorsing the dipping tobacco Skoal, and was a guest VJ on MTV with Billy Martin in July 1986. In 1988 Murcer entered and finished the New York City Marathon.
He recorded two country songs, "Skoal Dippin' Man" and "Bad Whiskey" in 1982, both released by Columbia Records, and appeared in two films as himself, including The Scout. He also was part of a four-player biography in 1973, "At Bat!: Aaron-Murcer-Bench-Jackson", by Bill Gutman, published by Tempo Books.
