Bob Jack - Later Life

Later Life

Jack lived in Southend during his retirement, occasionally working as a scout for his son David while he was manager at Southend. In addition to David, two of his other sons, (Rollo and Donald), also played professionally for Bolton Wanderers. Despite being Scottish, Jack represented England at bowls.

His ashes were scattered over the pitch at Home Park, Plymouth.

Famous quotes containing the word life:

His life itself passes deeper in nature than the studies of the naturalist penetrate; himself a subject for the naturalist. The latter raises the moss and bark gently with his knife in search of insects; the former lays open logs to their core with his axe, and moss and bark fly far and wide. He gets his living by barking trees. Such a man has some right to fish, and I love to see nature carried out in him.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

It’s not that we have too much mother, but too little father. We can’t forgive our mothers for taking the place of our fathers until we are ready to see that the point of a man’s life is to be a father and a mentor, and we can’t do that because we don’t know how we would be a father or a mentor when we never had one.
    Frank Pittman (20th century)
