Blue Swords

Blue Swords (German: Pokal der Blauen Schwerter) is an international figure skating competition organized by the Deutsche Eislauf-Union. Medals are awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. Champions of the event win the "Blue Swords Trophy".

Blue Swords began as an international figure skating competition in East Germany, and was held annually between 1961 and 1998. Since then it has been held every two years in Chemnitz, Saxony, Germany. By 1994, it had become a junior-level event. In some years since 1997, it is chosen by the International Skating Union to be a Junior Grand Prix event. These are the only years when the event is held now.

The German name for the event is "Pokal der Blauen Schwerter", and is named after the blue swords trademark of the famous porcelain manufacturer Meißen. The Blue Sword Trophy is made of that porcelain.

Famous quotes containing the words blue and/or swords:

    So as to comprehend that the sky is blue everywhere one doesn’t need to travel around the world.
    Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe (1749–1832)

    If all would lead their lives in love like me,
    Then bloody swords and armor should not be;
    No drum nor trumpet peaceful sleeps should move,
    Unless alarm came from the camp of love.
