History
The airline was established in 1998 by Franco Pecci and started operations in December 1998. It is owned by Distal & Itr Group (66.6%) and Franco Pecci (33.4%). It operates the low-cost airline Blu-express as a division, which is completely owned by Franco Pecci.
On 25 January 2012, Alitalia declared they would start a merger with Blue Panorama, as well as with Wind Jet, another Italian airline. Although on 12 April 2012 Alitalia chose to pursue the acquisition of the sole Wind Jet, abandoning the merger with Blue Panorama Airlines.
In late October 2012, Blue Panaorama was filed for bankruptcy protection, similar to Chapter 11 in the United States. This give the airline the ability to restructure itself.
