Blowering Dam

Blowering Dam is one of several hydroelectric power stations on the Tumut River in New South Wales, Australia. It is part of the Snowy Mountains Scheme, a vast hydroelectricity and irrigation complex constructed in south-east Australia between 1949 and 1974 and now run by Snowy Hydro. Blowering has one turbine generator, with a generating capacity of 80 MW of electricity.

The dam was completed in 1968 and the power station was completed in 1969. The reservoir holds 1.628 cubic kilometres (1,320,000 acre·ft). The dam height is 112 metres (367 ft) and is constructed of earth and rockfill. The power station has 86.6 metres (284 ft) rated hydraulic head.

The water from the dam is used for irrigation along the Murrumbidgee River, Yanco/Colombo/Billabong Creeks system, the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area and the Colleambally Irrigation Area.

In 1978, Ken Warby set the Water speed record of 511 kilometres per hour (318 mph) on Blowering Lake.
