Human Interactions
Harmless to humans, the blotchy swell shark adapts readily to captivity and has reproduced in public aquariums. This species is caught incidentally by Japanese and Taiwanese bottom trawlers and brought to market. Intensive commercial fishing within its range do not yet appear to have impacted its numbers, but until more data are available the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has listed it under Data Deficient.
