Parts of The Blastocyst
The blastocyst consists of two primary cell types:
- the inner cell mass, also known as the "embryoblast" (this part of the embryo is used in stem cell research)
- the trophoblast, a layer of cells surrounding the inner cell mass and the blastocyst cavity (blastocoele).
The former is the source of embryonic stem cells and gives rise to all later structures of the adult organism. The latter combines with the maternal endometrium to form the placenta in eutherian mammals.

Famous quotes containing the words parts of the, parts of and/or parts:
“The words of a whisperer are like delicious morsels; they go down into the inner parts of the body.”
—Bible: Hebrew, Proverbs 18:8.
“Here, the churches seemed to shrink away into eroding corners. They seem to have ceased to be essential parts of American life. They no longer give life. It is the huge buildings of commerce and trade which now align the people to attention. These in their massive manner of steel and stone say, Come unto me all ye who labour, and we will give you work.”
—Sean OCasey (18841964)
“Water, earth, air, fire, and the other parts of this structure of mine are no more instruments of your life than instruments of your death. Why do you fear your last day? It contributes no more to your death than each of the others. The last step does not cause the fatigue, but reveals it. All days travel toward death, the last one reaches it.”
—Michel de Montaigne (15331592)
