Black Snake Moan (film)

Black Snake Moan is a 2006 American drama film written and directed by Craig Brewer, and starring Samuel L. Jackson, Christina Ricci, Justin Timberlake, and Kim Richards. The plot focuses on a Mississippi bluesman (Jackson) who holds a troubled local woman (Ricci) captive in his house in an attempt to cure her of her nymphomania after finding her severely beaten on the side of a road.

The title of the film derives from the 1927 Blind Lemon Jefferson song, while the plot is loosely based on George Eliot's 1861 novel Silas Marner. The film draws numerous references to the Mississippi Blues movement, not least in its title and soundtrack.

Famous quotes containing the words black, snake and/or moan:

If we became students of Malcolm X, we would not have young black men out there killing each other like they’re killing each other now. Young black men would not be impregnating young black women at the rate going on now. We’d not have the drugs we have now, or the alcoholism.
    Spike Lee (b. 1956)

If this creature is a murderer, then so are we all. This snake has killed one British soldier; we have killed many. This is not murder, gentlemen. This is war.
—Administration in the State of Sout, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

Her voice is thin and her moan is high,
And her cackling laugh or her barking cold
Bring terror to the young and old.
    O Molly, Molly, Molly Means
Lean is the ghost of Molly Means.
    Margaret Abigail Walker (b. 1915)
