Bitwise IIT Kharagpur
Bitwise is an online programming contest hosted by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. It challenges the world's best programmers to solve its selection of tough algorithm intensive challenges in the span of 12 hours, and is notorious for its last minute winning entries.
The next iteration, Bitwise 2013, is scheduled to be held on February 10th 2013. Prizes worth USD 10,000 are up for grabs. Registrations will start soon.
Facebook was the Title Sponsor for Bitwise 2012, and Epic Systems, its Associate Sponsor, with Interviewstreet slated to be the Systems Partner. The 2012 edition had prize money over USD 3800 in the offing.
Bitwise was started in the year 2001 by the senior undergraduate students of Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. The contest provides programmers across the globe a platform to compete, testing their ability to develop efficient algorithms to problems within a given time constraint. Over the last eleven years, the contest has grown in popularity and prize money, attracting the world's top programmers. Bitwise 2003 had a participation of over 900 teams, which rose to over 5000 teams (3500 playing on the event day) from 80 different countries in 2011.
