Famous quotes containing the words bishop of and/or bishop:

    Whether they knew or not,
Goldsmith and Burke, Swift and the Bishop of Cloyne
All hated Whiggery; but what is Whiggery?
A levelling, rancorous, rational sort of mind
That never looked out of the eye of a saint
    Or out of drunkard’s eye.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)

How can a bishop marry? How can he flirt? The most he can say is “I will see you in the vestry after service.”
    Sydney Smith (1771–1845)
