Birthmark (band) - Musical Style

Musical Style

Birthmark' s musical evolution is based on the band members' varied influences. The sound of the band started (2001–2003) from a point where hard guitar parts and powerful lead guitar melodies were being combined with "fragile", high-pitched vocals. Later (2004–2008), with the addition of the violin, the band's sound became more melodic, romantic and at the same time shadowy, dominated by Adamantine Arvanitis' expressive vocals. The "Product of Black Days" album, which was the outcome of this period was characterized by these elements and a degree of musical and emotional complexity. After 2008, the vast changes in the band's line-up brought a new era for its musical style. Birthmark's compositions became simpler with the band giving priority to certain elements of the songs, trying to make them straighter and more conveying of their feeling and meaning. Songwriting in Birthmark is a collaborative process, as all members have an essential songwriting role. All the band's music is officially credited to Birthmark and the lyrics mostly to Argyris Tsoukalas and Adamantine Arvanitis.

Famous quotes containing the words musical and/or style:

I was with Hercules and Cadmus once,
When in a wood of Crete they bayed the bear
With hounds of Sparta: never did I hear
Such gallant chiding; for besides the groves,
The skies, the fountains, every region near
Seemed all one mutual cry. I never heard
So musical a discord, such sweet thunder.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

It is not in our drawing-rooms that we should look to judge of the intrinsic worth of any style of dress. The street-car is a truer crucible of its inherent value.
    Elizabeth Stuart Phelps (1844–1911)
