According to preliminary 2011 CBS census data, Biratnagar's population was 202,061.It is the fourth largest city of Nepal after Kathmandu, Pokhara and Lalitpur; and is the headquarter of Morang District. Biratnagar's demography chiefly consists of groups like Brahman, Kshtriya, Marwari, Madhesis, Tharus. It consists a significantly large Muslim population in Nepal. Most people follow Hinduism followed by Islam, Buddhism, Jainism and Christianity.
