Large-scale Brain Network Theory
Psychiatric and neurological disorders can be characterized by connectivity within and between large-scale brain networks. These networks are important to study because they can provide a better understanding of the impact of these disorders, more so than studying one brain region, as recent research has shown that multiple brain regions are involved in these disorders. Famous quotes containing the words large-scale, brain, network and/or theory:
“Is an intelligent human being likely to be much more than a large-scale manufacturer of misunderstanding?”
—Philip Roth (b. 1933)
“Bear with my weakness. My old brain is troubled.
Be not disturbed with my infirmity.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“How have I been able to live so long outside Nature without identifying myself with it? Everything lives, moves, everything corresponds; the magnetic rays, emanating either from myself or from others, cross the limitless chain of created things unimpeded; it is a transparent network that covers the world, and its slender threads communicate themselves by degrees to the planets and stars. Captive now upon earth, I commune with the chorus of the stars who share in my joys and sorrows.”
—Gérard De Nerval (18081855)
“The struggle for existence holds as much in the intellectual as in the physical world. A theory is a species of thinking, and its right to exist is coextensive with its power of resisting extinction by its rivals.”
—Thomas Henry Huxley (182595)
