Bilirubin - Blood Levels

Blood Levels

There are no normal levels of bilirubin as it is an excretion product, and levels found in the body reflects the balance between production and excretion. Different sources provide reference ranges that are similar but not identical. Some examples for adults are provided below (different reference ranges are often used for newborns):

μmol/L mg/dL
total bilirubin 5.1–17.0 0.2–1.9,
0.3–1.0,
0.1–1.2
direct bilirubin 1.0–5.1 0–0.3,
0.1–0.3,
0.1–0.4

Famous quotes containing the words blood and/or levels:

    O, the blood more stirs
To rouse a lion than to start a hare!
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

When I turned into a parent, I experienced a real and total personality change that slowly shifted back to the “normal” me, yet has not completely vanished. I believe the two levels are now superimposed, with an additional sprinkling of mortality intimations.
    Sonia Taitz (20th century)
