Famous quotes containing the words big, sky, conference, men and/or basketball:

    The world and life’s too big to pass for a dream,
    Robert Browning (1812–1889)

    The first promise exchanged by two beings of flesh was at the foot of a rock that was crumbling into dust; they took as witness for their constancy a sky that is not the same for a single instant; everything changed in them and around them, and they believed their hearts free of vicissitudes. O children! always children!
    Denis Diderot (1713–1784)

    Reading maketh a full man; conference a ready man; and writing an exact man.
    Francis Bacon (1561–1626)

    We cannot fight for love, as men may do;
    We should be wooed, and were not made to woo.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

    Perhaps basketball and poetry have just a few things in common, but the most important is the possibility of transcendence. The opposite is labor. In writing, every writer knows when he or she is laboring to achieve an effect. You want to get from here to there, but find yourself willing it, forcing it. The equivalent in basketball is aiming your shot, a kind of strained and usually ineffective purposefulness. What you want is to be in some kind of flow, each next moment a discovery.
    Stephen Dunn (b. 1939)
