Betty Boop's Life Guard - Notes and Comments

Notes and Comments

  • This is the first Post-Code Betty Boop cartoon. The Hays Office ordered the removal of the suggestive curtain introduction which had started the cartoons up until now because Betty Boop's winks and shaking of her hips was deemed "suggestive of immorality."
  • This cartoon featured the second appearance of Betty's boyfriend Fearless Freddy.

Famous quotes containing the words notes and, notes and/or comments:

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you—like music to the musician or Marxism to the Communist—or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
    F. Scott Fitzgerald (1896–1940)

My weary limbs are scarcely stretched for repose, before red dawn peeps into my chamber window, and the birds in the whispering leaves over the roof, apprise me by their sweetest notes that another day of toil awaits me. I arise, the harness is hastily adjusted and once more I step upon the tread-mill.
—“E. B.,” U.S. farmer. As quoted in Feminine Ingenuity, by Anne L. MacDonald (1992)

My note to you I certainly did not expect to see in print; yet I have not been much shocked by the newspaper comments upon it. Those comments constitute a fair specimen of what has occurred to me through life. I have endured a great deal of ridicule without much malice; and have received a great deal of kindness, not quite free from ridicule. I am used to it.
    Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)
