As of 2001 India census, Bettiah had a population of 116,692. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%.
As per 2011 census, Bettiah Urban Agglomeration had a population of 156,200. Bettiah Urban Agglomeration includes Bettiah (Nagar Panchayat), Tola Mansaraut (Census Town), Kargahia Purab (Census Town) and Hat Saraiya (Census Town). Bettiah Nagar Panchayat had a total population of 132,896, out of which 70,381 were males and 62,515 were females. It had a sex ratio of 888. The population below 5 years was 18,203. The literacy rate of the 7+ population was 82.54 per cent.
