Berry Plastics - "666" Lawsuit

"666" Lawsuit

As of November 2011 the company is the defendant in a lawsuit brought on by a former employee who claims he was sacked for refusing to wear a badge with the number "666 on it. The number was to signify the number of days the factory had gone without an accident, but the man, a Christian, believed wearing the badge with this number would condemn him to hell. At first he was given a three-day suspension but several days later he was fired. This took place in March 2009, and in August the man complained to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission which granted him the right to sue the company. The lawsuit seeks punitive damages and back pay.
