Bernard Lyot Telescope

The Bernard Lyot Telescope (Téléscope Bernard Lyot, or TBL) is a 2 m Cassegrain telescope operating in the visible domain, since 1980. It is located at 2877 m elevation on the Pic du Midi in the French Pyrenees. Since 2007, the Bernard Lyot Telescope is housing an echelle spectropolarimeter NARVAL, allowing astronomers to probe stellar magnetic fields to an exquisite sensitivity.

Famous quotes containing the words bernard and/or telescope:

O Lord! I don’t know which is the worst of the country, the walking or the sitting at home with nothing to do.
    —George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)

The sight of a planet through a telescope is worth all the course on astronomy; the shock of the electric spark in the elbow, outvalues all the theories; the taste of the nitrous oxide, the firing of an artificial volcano, are better than volumes of chemistry.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
