Bernard Daly

Bernard Daly (1858–1920) was an American country doctor, businessman, banker, rancher, state representative, state senator, county judge, and regent of Oregon State Agricultural College (today’s Oregon State University). He also ran for United States Congress, and was his party’s candidate for the United States Senate. Daly’s educational trust fund has financed college educations for generations of Lake County, Oregon students, a legacy that continues to this day.

Famous quotes containing the words bernard and/or daly:

Fine art is the subtlest, the most seductive, the most effective instrument of moral propaganda in the world, excepting only the example of personal conduct; and I waive even this exception in favor of the art of the stage, because it works by exhibiting examples of personal conduct made intelligible and moving to crowds of unobservant unreflecting people to whom real life means nothing.
    —George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)

If God is male, then male is God. The divine patriarch castrates women as long as he is allowed to live on in the human imagination.
    —Mary Daly (b. 1928)
