Berlin Brandenburg Airport - Airlines and Destinations

Airlines and Destinations

Air Berlin, the second largest airline in Germany, will use the Berlin Brandenburg airport as its main intercontinental hub, occupying pier south along with oneworld partners. Air Berlin handles most flights in Berlin, with a share of over 30 percent as of 2011. Air Berlin joined the global airline alliance Oneworld on 20 March 2012. Lufthansa, Europe's largest airline, will also expand its operations in Berlin, its biggest single expansion at any airport to date. The destinations offered will jump from 8 to 38 by Lufthansa alone, 49 if subsidiaries are counted.

Air Berlin laid the foundations for the first maintenance hangar at Berlin Brandenburg Airport on 21 March 2011, doubling the maintenance capacity of Air Berlin Technik at its future Berlin site. Lufthansa Technik is also building a 16-million-euro hangar.

The tentative summer schedule at BER, starting in June 2012, was supposed to include 75 airlines serving 173 destinations in 50 countries. Among the longhaul flights are connections to Abu Dhabi, Beijing, Doha, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, Punta Cana, Ulan Bator, Varadero and Windhoek.

The airport terminal has three piers: Pier north, equipped with walk and bus boarding gates, is designated for low-cost carriers (easyJet, Germanwings). The main pier and pier south have airbridges as well as remote bus boarding aircraft stands. Pier south will be used by Air Berlin and other oneworld airlines.

All services will begin when airport opens unless otherwise stated.
