History

BellSouth Telecommunications was formed in 1983 as SBT&T Co.. Incorporated in Georgia in 1983, it replaced the original Southern Bell that was incorporated in New York in 1879. That company was legally merged into SBT&T Co. on December 31, 1983, then SBT&T Co. was renamed Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company.
