Beehive (Gatwick Airport) - The Building Today

The Building Today

GB Airways, established in 1931 as Gibraltar Airways by Gibraltar shipping group MH Bland, moved its headquarters and operational base to The Beehive. in 1989.

When EasyJet announced its purchase of most of GB Airways's assets in 2007, the Beehive was not included. The employment base at The Beehive closed, with 284 job losses. After the purchase by easyJet occurred in January 2008, the building was retained by GB's former parent company, Bland Group. The offices it now consists of are being offered to tenants requiring serviced office accommodation. James Gaggero, Chairman of the Bland Group converted the building into a "service centre" for the group's operations in the United Kingdom in 2008.

The Beehive was listed at Grade II* on 19 August 1996. It is one of the 12 Grade II* buildings, and 100 listed buildings of all grades, in the Borough of Crawley.

It is currently occupied by Meridian Aviation.

Famous quotes containing the words building and/or today:

The mention of one apartment in a building naturally introduces an enquiry or discourse concerning the others: and if we think of a wound, we can scarcely forbear reflecting on the pain which follows it.
    David Hume (1711–1776)

Farewell? a long farewell to all my greatness.
This is the state of man; today he puts forth
The tender leaves of hopes, tomorrow blossoms,
And bears his blushing honors thick upon him:
The third day comes a frost, a killing frost,
And when he thinks, good easy man, full surely
His greatness is a-ripening, nips his root,
And then he falls as I do.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
