The blue-wing Demoiselle is a day of about 20 known species of the genus Calopteryx dar. However, a comprehensive systematic revision in the genus Calopteryx is long overdue, to clarify a number of contentious points currently on the authorization of individual species or subspecies. In addition to the blue-wing Demoiselle three other species in Europe are represented, with the Bronze demoiselle ( Calopteryx haemorrhoidalis ) and the Southwest demoiselle ( Calopteryx xanthostoma happen) only two species in southern Europe. All other species are distributed over the Holarctic and are accordingly to be found in North America and Asia. The sister species of blue-wing Demoiselle represents probably represents the Bronze demoiselle, according to molecular biological studies revealed for the European species the following relationship.

Within each species different subspecies are discussed, which differ based primarily of dyeings. Also, hybrids between species and appear to be possible, but were rarely documented.
