Beacon High Schools in Beijing

Beacon high schools in Beijing (Chinese: 北京市高中示范校, literally Model high schools in Beijing) is a system used by the municipal government of Beijing, China to designate model high schools.

Traditionally, some high schools in China have been statically designated as "key schools", which are associated with academic prestige and preferential resource allocation.

Over the last decade, the municipality is in the process of changing it into a beacon high school (示范高中) system, which is subject to specific criterion and periodic reviews. The long-term goal is to establish about 60 "large in scale, well-equipped and high quality" high schools, as examples of excellence.

To date, 3 reviews have been done, and 44 schools are currently listed as "beacon" high schools.

Famous quotes containing the words beacon, high and/or schools:

I am cozily ensconced in the balcony of my face
Looking out over the whole darn countryside, a beacon of satisfaction
I am. I’ll not trade places with a king. Here I am then, continuing but ever beginning
    My perennial voyage....
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)

    What generous beliefs console
The brave whom Fate denies the goal!
If others reach it, is content:
To Heaven’s high will his will is bent.
    Firm on his heart relied,
    What lot soe’er betide,
    Work of his hand
    He nor repents nor grieves,
    Pleads for itself the fact,
    As unrepenting Nature leaves
    Her every act.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

It is too late in the century for women who have received the benefits of co-education in schools and colleges, and who bear their full share in the world’s work, not to care who make the laws, who expound and who administer them.
    J. Ellen Foster (1840–1910)
