Battle of Tory Island - Chase

Chase

By nightfall some of the remaining French ships had entered Donegal Bay with Canada, Melampus and Foudroyant still in pursuit. The two forces repeatedly passed one another in the dark, and Canada almost drove ashore. Back at the battlesite, Warren had ordered Robust to tow Hoche into Lough Swilly—this order later came under criticism, as Robust was in a battered state herself and the storms of the previous week had not abated. When a gale struck the pair on 13 October, Hoche lost several masts and broke her tow, only being prevented from foundering by the combined efforts of the British prize crew and their French prisoners. Eventually, on 15 October, Doris appeared and took Hoche in tow, arriving in Lough Swilly without further incident a few days later. Meanwhile, Ethalion saw Bellone safely into port, and Magnanime and Amelia brought in Coquille and Embuscade respectively.

Famous quotes containing the word chase:

    Groot: Now wait a minute, Quo. You really ain’t gonna take a man’s only set of teeth, are ya?
    Quo: Uh huh.
    Groot: Yeah, but I gotta use ‘em for eatin’.
    Quo: Come grub you get ‘em.
    Groot: Whad ya’ gonna do with ‘em?
    Quo: My name now Two-Jaw Quo.
    —Borden Chase [Frank Fowler] (1900–1971)

    The theater is a baffling business, and a shockingly wasteful one when you consider that people who have proven their worth, who have appeared in or been responsible for successful plays, who have given outstanding performances, can still, in the full tide of their energy, be forced, through lack of opportunity, to sit idle season after season, their enthusiasm, their morale, their very talent dwindling to slow gray death. Of finances we will not even speak; it is too sad a tale.
    —Ilka Chase (1905–1978)

    Go chase into the house a lucky foot.
    And, O my son, be, on the one hand, good,
    And do not, on the other hand, be bad;
    For that is very much the safest plan.
    —A.E. (Alfred Edward)
