Pentemili is the name of the beach of northern Cyprus where the Turkish troops landed on 20 July 1974. It is located 5 miles (8 km) west of Kyrenia, thus the name. For 3 days (20–22 July 1974), heavy fighting took place around the beachhead of Pentemili, between Turkish and Greek Cypriot forces.

Famous quotes containing the word battle:

    Much have I seen and known—cities of men
    And manners, climates, councils, governments,
    Myself not least, but honored of them all—
    And drunk delight of battle with my peers,
    Far on the ringing plains of windy Troy.
    I am a part of all that I have met;
    Alfred Tennyson (1809–1892)
