Battle of Nancy (1944) - The Americans Regroup

The Americans Regroup

Though the initial crossing attempts largely failed, by 7 September the situation had started to improve for the Americans. With the U.S. 7th Army rapidly approaching from the south and the XV Corps returning to the 3rd Army to guard the southern flank, the 35th Infantry Division was now available to use in the next assault.

A new plan drawn up was for the 80th Infantry Division to attack in the north and the 35th in the south along with the 4th Armored's Combat Command B (CCB), while CCA would wait in reserve to exploit either flank. This new plan was scheduled to take place on 11 September.

Famous quotes containing the word americans:

The Americans never use the word peasant, because they have no idea of the class which that term denotes; the ignorance of more remote ages, the simplicity of rural life, and the rusticity of the villager have not been preserved among them; and they are alike unacquainted with the virtues, the vices, the coarse habits, and the simple graces of an early stage of civilization.
    Alexis de Tocqueville (1805–1859)
