Battle of Lake Khasan - Consequences

Consequences

The Japanese military, while taking the lesson seriously, was willing to engage with the Soviets once more, with disastrous results, in the more extensive Battle of Khalkhin Gol (Nomonhan) in the Soviet-Japanese Border War of 1939. The result of this engagement was the total defeat of the Japanese Sixth Army by the Soviets.

The Soviet losses were blamed on the incompetence of Vasily Blücher. On October 22 he was arrested by the NKVD and later tortured to death.

Famous quotes containing the word consequences:

Cultivate the habit of thinking ahead, and of anticipating the necessary and immediate consequences of all your actions.... Likewise in your pleasures, ask yourself what such and such an amusement leads to, as it is essential to have an objective in everything you do. Any pastime that contributes nothing to bodily strength or to mental alertness is a totally ridiculous, not to say, idiotic, pleasure.
Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (1694–1773)

The consequences of our actions grab us by the scruff of our necks, quite indifferent to our claim that we have “gotten better” in the meantime.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)

If you are prepared to accept the consequences of your dreams ... then you must still regard America today with the same naive enthusiasm as the generations that discovered the New World.
    Jean Baudrillard (b. 1929)
