Battle of Cabrita Point - The Battle

The Battle

Arriving at Gibraltar, he found five French ships hauling out of the bay. Admiral Leake had every advantage and he pressed home his attack with speed and vigour. In a swift and skilful action near Cabrita Point, 9 miles south-west of Marbella, the Dutch took two of the French ships, Leake a third. Pointis had no other option than to run the two remaining ships ashore and burn them to avoid capture.

The remaining part of the French squadron had been blown from their anchors by a gale, and taken shelter in the bay of Malaga; but now they slipped their cables and made the best of their way to Toulon.

Famous quotes containing the word battle:

    Much have I seen and known—cities of men
    And manners, climates, councils, governments,
    Myself not least, but honored of them all—
    And drunk delight of battle with my peers,
    Far on the ringing plains of windy Troy.
    I am a part of all that I have met;
    Alfred Tennyson (1809–1892)

    All married couples should learn the art of battle as they should learn the art of making love. Good battle is objective and honest—never vicious or cruel. Good battle is healthy and constructive, and brings to a marriage the principle of equal partnership.
    Ann Landers (b. 1918)
