Basic People's Court

A basic people's court (simplified Chinese: 基层人民法院; traditional Chinese: 基層人民法院; pinyin: Jīcéng Rénmín Fǎyuàn) is a lowest level court in the Courts of General Jurisdiction in the People's Republic of China. According to the Organic Law of the People's Courts of the People's Republic of China, the basic people's courts handle the first instance cases at the local level.

Basic people's courts are set up at the county and district level. They consist of a president, vice president, and judges. A basic court may be further divided into criminal, civil, and economic divisions. Basic people's courts also handle cases that are deemed too trivial to require a trial.

Famous quotes containing the words basic, people and/or court:

Scientific reason, with its strict conscience, its lack of prejudice, and its determination to question every result again the moment it might lead to the least intellectual advantage, does in an area of secondary interest what we ought to be doing with the basic questions of life.
    Robert Musil (1880–1942)

I am fifty-two years of age. I am a bishop in the Anglican Church, and a few people might be constrained to say that I was reasonably responsible. In the land of my birth I cannot vote, whereas a young person of eighteen can vote. And why? Because he or she possesses that wonderful biological attribute—a white skin.
    Desmond Tutu (b. 1931)

To take revenge halfheartedly is to court disaster: Either condemn or crown your hatred.
    Pierre Corneille (1606–1684)
