Bart Hubert Wilfried Marcel Staes (born on 7 August 1958 in Izegem) is a Belgian politician and a Member of the European Parliament for Flanders. He is a member of Groen!, part of the European Greens. He sits in a transnational delegation together with MEPs for the GreenLeft. He started his career as a Bachelor Dutch-English-economics and became a politician later on. He lives in Antwerp. He started his political career in the Volksunie, which later became Spirit. 2002, Bart Staes made, because of the cartel sp.a-Spirit, the move to the then-called Agalev (later Groen!). As from 1999, he's uninteruptedly been a Member of the European Parliament for at first Volksunie, later Spirit and now Groen!. He is especially interested in environment and peace movements.
